Syracuse University faculty and staff identify student learning outcomes to capture a program’s intended goals and reflect on students’ knowledge and skills. For the purposes of this tool, we use the terminology “outcome” but the tool can be used to create course learning objectives as well.
What is a learning outcome?
A learning outcome is a statement that tells learners WHAT they should be able to DO, in measurable terms, AFTER instruction.
A well-defined learning outcome has three elements.
- Performance: actions that demonstrate learning
- Condition: demonstration of that action
- Criteria: standard for demonstrated learning
The learning outcome generator below combines Bloom’s and Fink’s Learning Taxonomies to generate learning outcomes for a holistic learning experience.
